According to the survey
conducted by Juniper Research the number of people using mobile VoIP through
mobile device apps will reach 1 billion. This survey has been in the center of
attention in a number of tech publications. In spite of the public excitement
generated around it experts in the VoIP industry still wonder why mobile VoIP
is not so popular already as it should be. Mobile VoIP is the best solution for
low-rate mobile calling whereas the landline VoIP is the cheapest option
available for home and business use. So why the consumers don`t hurry to
embrace it?
It seems that lack of
awareness is the largest obstacle hindering universal mobile VoIP use. Many
consumers don`t even know what VoIP means and what it is used for. They talk
over Skype without even realizing that it is based on VoIP platform.
Some of the more widely-recognized
VoIP providers achieved certain success in introducing mobile VoIP technology.
However, consumers are still using mobile VoIP applications to make free and easy calls to
those using the same
application. In the meantime, they don`t use them to call another landline or
mobile number, which will cost them money.
This is one of the other
inhibitors for universal mobile VoIP adoption: to get mobile VoIP the user
should make an additional step, i.e. to download the application, and there can
be the perception of additional fee (per minute fees, which Skype and other
similar providers charge when calls are being made to non-Skype numbers).
When digging a little deeper
it becomes clear that consumers can save a lot of money making cheap calls via VoIP application.
Downloading and installing VoIPapplication they can make unlimited low rate calls on their mobile phones
instead of eating up cell phone minutes. Mobile VoIP application can help to
save on roaming fees when abroad.
